Do you consider your self of average intelligence? Smart? Brilliant? Genius?
How about in relation to your cat or your dog or other animals?
Questions about our intelligence are not usually asked in this way because we have conditioned ourselves to see any life other than human as an intelligence that below our own.
Was there a time that you saw an animal act in a way that made you wonder if they were acting on instinct or with an intended higher purpose? If they are capable of acting with a higher order of thought, or put differently, have the ability to act with an intended higher purpose, then how are we to determine the level of intelligence that animals or other living things have. Should we only use our own understanding of intelligence as the reference point for making this assessment?
I know, you’re asking yourself….. Where is he going with this?
Well, this is a commentary on one of our gifts that go beyond intelligence. A gift that each of us have which supports our ability to make life what it was intended to be. As well as for us to become what we choose.
I watched a video recently on Dolphins that were captive and studied to show that their level of intelligence was far beyond what we had previously thought. Their ability to recognize, feel and emote rivals that of humans. As a mirror was place in the tank, there was a clear indication through their behavior that they were very self aware. Unlike a dog or cat that either ignores their own reflection or thinks there is another cat or dog in the room, these animals really checked themselves out and even turned to see markings that were placed on them by the handlers. They blew air bubbles and just played from time to time in font of the mirror looking inside their own mouths and so on.
Whether Dolphin, Elephant, Cat, Dog or any other animal on the planet – there needs to be a measure of respect and reverence we give to them as being created by the same life force or life source that created us. This knowing brings about a level of obligation to the preservation and respect for life that most of us have for each other as humans.
No this was not intended to be an animal rights blog post – but if you get closer to understanding that point of view based on this short note, then that’s probably not a bad thing.
What I am intending is for you to recognize and revere the life that You have, in a way that shines a light on your connection with the divine, the ‘life source,’ the universe….. God.
As humans becoming (not human beings) we are continually evolving and changing within our present life time and as a species over longer periods of time. One way that we continue to evolve is in our awareness of who we are. Think of our existence here as a gift. The gift of Life. Along with that gift we have been given several powers that allow us to live this Life in a way that emanates the reflection of the ‘life source’ that gave this life to us.
One such power is our Power to be Aware. It has been said that as humans we are aware, that we are aware. This is the essence of us living life in an awakened state. Awakened to the understanding of our powers, abilities, responsibilities, connections with each other and with source (God). This awareness has been what we have thought separated us from all other living creatures. No, I won’t attempt to convince you that this is true or false. That could take quite a bit of convincing either way. But it would be fun and perhaps enlightening to discuss or debate that with you at some point.
This being awaRe or awaKe is fundamental in our spiritual growth and development. We shouldn’t take it lightly. By taking it lightly I mean that we shouldn’t get out of the habit of seeking the connection with our ‘life source.’ Whether its though praying, meditating or just looking inward and reflecting to connect with our true self – this is essential for us to live our True Life.
Although there are many gifts or powers we have in our tool kit as humans, I will only talk briefly about one other. The gift of Choice. Because we have the power to choose it becomes extremely important that our choices are based on staying connected to the source of our creation.
The opportunity to use this power presents itself thousands of times daily and for the most part we make these choices quickly and without much thought. What am I going to wear today? How much more coffee will I drink? Should I call that person back now or later? on and on and on. Seems innocent enough on the surface. However, be aware of one truth. One that I learned many years ago as a homeless adult when I woke up to my True Life. What I realized was not only true for me but is true for all of us. Wherever you are in your life, it is a result of the choices you have made.
For some this is hard to hear, because some of us like to think that our situation is a result of what others have done to or for us.
Once you become aware or wake to who you are and what was intended for your life, you then understand how much control you really do have in being, doing and having anything you choose.
The feeling of empowerment, joy, freedom, abundance, opportunity and so on become heightened and leads to you having more in life than you could imagine while you were unaware of who you really are.
Live your True Life – the life you were intended to live.

First off I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask
if you don’t mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I’ve had trouble clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there.
I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost just trying to
figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?
Kudos!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I feel your pain. I had a love hate relationship with writing. There is a part of me that enjoys it and another part that goes out of my way to avoid it. However, when I get the feeling to write something it just flows – but a lot of the time it was a struggle to put the words together. So take solace in knowing you are not alone. However, there is hope…. My answer may not work for you but may give you some ideas that would help.
There is one thing I have learned to do and something I have also begun doing with my coaching clients, that allows us to get unblocked or just get out of our own way. I have learned to pay attention to the beauty of the world. I try to see the wonderment of nature and all things not created by man. This is often a conversation I have when someone wants me to help them meditate. They typically have a hard time clearing their mind and shutting down all the chatter in their head. I learned (not too long ago) that trying to force yourself to shut down the internal noise is almost impossible. Fortunately I discovered something (by accident) that worked for me. It seems to work for the few people I have shared this with as well. It may mean nothing to you – but since you asked here goes…
One day as I watched a video of a flock of birds (starlings) flying together in unison, I was blown away. (http://bit.ly/1sUzG5D)
There were literally thousands of them flying in formation and changing direction with the grace and ease of a ballet dancer or a young gymnast twirling a long ribbon during an Olympic performance. I marveled at the precision and the shapes these birds made in the air as the weaved perfectly in and out of formations that can only be described as art. I will try sending you this link so you get the idea of what I am trying to describe. Perhaps you’ve seen this yourself. Well I was not only mesmerized but I was profoundly struck by the thought that there must be some higher level of connection or communication going on with these birds that we humans will never understand. They were obviously communicating without any audible sounds that we would rely on. When you and I drive our vehicles we have all the sophistication in communication, technology including GPS, computers, we’ve agreed to certain rules of the road, we have stop lights and stop signs, turn signals, horns, and the list goes on. With all of that in place, we find a way to crash into each other on a regular basis. As I watched this tightly grouped flock of hundreds maybe thousands of birds not one crashing into another – I was awestruck.
When I began to look at other natural occurrences around me, like the grass growing and bending toward the sun as the earth rotates and the sun appears to move through the sky; the schools of fish much like the birds that communicate on another level or dimension; the vast beauty of the oceans and the mountains; the miracle of the caterpillar that completely liquefies while in the cocoon only to reemerge as a beautiful butterfly and so on. I quickly began to realize that I would not be able to see and admire this beauty in the world if it were not also deep within me (and each one of us). Life recognizes life. This rediscovery that I am a part of everything and everything is a part of me, gave me such a powerful calmness that I felt a connection to the infinite that could only be described as complete peace.
Whenever I feel blocked or stuck and cannot seem to get out of my own way – I think back to those things that I connected to which gave me the knowing that I am so much more than whatever the small thing is that is blocking me or creating the chatter in my head. This allows a release which can open up the portal to what I call, your inner genius. A wisdom which is always ready to flow if you let it. With the thousands of thoughts that go through your head constantly – have you ever tried to grab just a few of them and expand on them and put them to paper ? When I have done that I have struggled. Now when I write I think about those birds, those fish, that blade of grass and I realize that the creative expression is not something I have to harness – it just is, and from there things seem to flow much easier. I am probably not doing this subject justice and forgive me if it reads like the ramblings of a lunatic. But I am doing what I just described. Not thinking to much about exactly what to tell you – just letting it flow without judgement. That is when your true voice will be heard. And… the more you do it, the clearer you will hear and recognize your own voice – whether anyone else is listening or not.
Again, my friend, I have no idea if any of this means anything to you or perhaps you can find another way to easily get centered. But you are on the right track just by asking the question. Lastly, don’t get too intellectual or academic about it. There is no right or wrong when you speak your truth. Tap into that infinite place of miracles inside of you to reconnect with your true self, your spiritual genius. Its there waiting for your voice to release it.
I honor your journey and hold the very best thoughts for your quest to share your voice.
My warmest regards,
Clarence
